We had PB’s 2nd birthday party a few days ago. It was a hoot.
If you ever want to experience an afternoon of pure chaos, attend the birthday party of a two year old.
We had a wonderful time, with lots of family and friends.
This year was a little more fun for PB than last year. He actually kinda had an idea about what was going on. We had been giving him presents a few days before, so he knew that he liked the idea of getting more presents. I think he was a little overwhelmed at first, but it didn’t take long for him to get pumped up.

We ate food (soups, dips, chips, and pizza) and sliced up the cake (chocolate and vanilla with buttercream icing). PB then tore into his presents. And just like I TOTALLY remember doing when I was that age, all the kids gathered around and started swarming over the goodies. We ended up opening every box he got, so all of his new toys were scattered everywhere.
This birthday was so much fun for me. To get to see that ‘look’ was priceless. I’m talking about the look of excitement/happiness/bewilderment that happens when you’re a kid and you get to open a present. It doesn’t even matter what’s inside. Your eyes are wild, and you are tearing into everything in sight.
Watching my boy enjoy his 2nd birthday reminds me of how unbelievably blessed we are to have him in our lives. I think things like this are way more fun for me than they are for him. It just makes my day to see him smile.

This year’s birthday preparation was pretty simple, compared to last year when I did everything myself and tried to hand-make things. Ironically, I did everything myself last year in an attempt to save money, when in reality, I spent much less money this year. I bought all of the decorations/party favors at the Dollar Tree, and I got his two-layer birthday cake from a local bakery for $43. This was definitely the route to go.
Our house is officially full, and we’ve got more toys than we know what to do with. There are 1,297 tiny little pieces and parts of things all over the place. I was so sweetly reminded of this when I peeked my head in PB’s room last night at 3:27 a.m. and I stepped on a CAT tractor and the backhoe stabbed through my foot.
And Christmas is just around the corner. I’m thinking that building a ‘toy storage’ room would be appropriate now.
Thanks to everyone who came and sent well wishes. We appreciate and love you all!
Have a blessed Monday!
