I’m a total weenie when it comes to trying new things. So much so, I normally make plans to do something brazen (for me), and then chicken out. For the last 2 years, I’ve wanted to get my eyebrows microbladed. My eyebrows are total victims of the early 2000s, when it was super cool to make your brows look like a line of floss. Unfortunately, my over-plucking really took, and my eyebrows never grew back. I have been filling them in for a couple of years, but have really grown tired of drawing my eyebrows on OR forgetting to draw both on (yes, that has happened before). So it was a super personal decision for me, and something that I spent a year or more researching. I don’t have any tattoos, and only have one ear piercing, so the idea of having my eyebrows ‘microbladed’ sounded a little scary to me. Plus, did I mention, I have NEVER had my eyebrows shaped or waxed? Nope. The wildest thing to touch my brows are me and my dollar store tweezers. So for me, getting this done was a pretty big deal.
I spent several weeks researching artists who did this kind of work, and ultimately decided on Lou from Wake Up With Makeup by Lou . Let me stop here and say how pleased I am with my decision to use her. She was highly recommended to me by several friends and followers, but I also spent a good deal of time looking at her work. I loved how natural her work looked. She FAR exceeded my expectations! And personally, she was just what I needed. She understood my fears, and really listened to what I wanted. She walked me through the process step by step, showed me what my outcome would be, and really took time listening to my concerns. That’s important to me. Plus, she was a HOOT! Seriously, I brought my sis in law and her baby, and my daughter and we had the BEST time. She’s a Godly woman, and has started doing an incredible work for breast cancer survivors. You can check that out here.
So on to the microblading! When we got to the appointment and I expressed my 1038482 concerns to Lou, she laughed at me, and then walked me through the process step by step (SO helpful). Next she ‘choose’ a set of brows that she though would be a good fit for me and I was able to see what they would look like on. That helped me visualize the results which was super helpful too! Then, she chose a color for me. This was a big deal because I wanted them to look as natural as possible and match my roots. She let me look at the color she mixed before she applied it to my brows.
The entire process took a little over an hour and honestly wasn’t painful. She numbed my eyebrows with a topical numbing cream and I couldn’t really feel anything. She went over each brow three times and towards the end of the last swipe, I could ‘feel’ it a little. It wasn’t painful, but maybe a little tender? She let me see every step in the process too, which made me feel so much better.
After I was finished, she went over how to care for them the next few weeks AND gave me everything I would need to care for them. She also told me what to expect during the healing stages too. I will go back in 8 weeks for my touch up with her to fix any spots, and then will follow up as needed after that.
I’m currently on day 3 of the healing process (I got them done Friday night), and so far, I’m so pleased! They haven’t hurt at all. They are slightly tender to the touch, but other than that, nothing else. I expect they will start itching and scabbing soon. Lou told me not to get them wet for 7 days, and to use the products that she gave me for that time. I wipe them twice a day with the solution she gave me, and then put a vaseline-type jelly over top of them. That makes them appear a little oily and dark for the time being. One thing I was ‘warned’ about by several people is that your microbladed brows will appear darker the first couple of days afterwards, and will then lighten up. I can definitely see that is the case so far. I’m excited to watch the progress they make over the next few weeks! With that being said, one piece of advice I would offer if you are considering microblading is to schedule your appointment during some down time. Mine fell on the Friday before my spring break which gives my brows some time to heal before I go back to work.
I will definitely share more of my process, including the stages of healing. I’m only a few days out, but understand they will change a bit over the course of the next few weeks. I’m taking pictures and plan to share those with you too!
My feedback so far? If you are considering it, DO IT! I’m so pleased. Coming from a gal who had NO eyebrow shape, I love having the shape, and fullness, and also LOVE not having to do the work myself (or forget to do it 🙂 in the mornings. And if you are local, I would HIGHLY recommend Lou Barnette. She was everything I had heard about her and more. She was truly a professional at her craft and made me feel completely happy, safe, and satisfied with her work.
Brittany, I enjoyed having you and the baby along with mamma Brittany! Ha! Y’all were such a pleasure and I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful client to work on. God made you beautiful, inside and out, I enjoyed enhancing your beauty. It was an easy task for me. Trust me when I say, the pleasure was all mine. Xoxoxo!
