One of my favorite things to do during the fall season is to bake (and eat!). I love trying new recipes and getting the kids involved when I can. There are a few staples I make every fall, including our Thanksgiving cinnamon roll tradition, and I usually always make a few apple desserts during the cooler months.
So I thought I would share some of my FAVORITE fall treats that we make on repeat, along with a few others that I’m going to try for the first time this season.
- Cinnamon Rolls. I know this isn’t technically a ‘fall’ treat, but something about warm and gooe-y makes me think of fall! Every year during the Thanksgiving break, me and the kids whip up several batches of Pioneer Woman’s Cinnamon Roll recipe. We freeze several pans to eat throughout the year, and we deliver some to friends and family. I love her recipe, but this year I thought about trying something new. I’ve been eyeing this recipe from The Stay at Home Chef. I think we’re going to use this time!
2. Oatmeal Cream Pies. I LOVED Little Debbie Oatmeal cream pies when I was growing up. I came across a few recipes for a homemade version and I’m just going to have to break down and try it! I think these would make the perfect fall treat to eat or share as goodies. The recipe I’ve been eyeing to try is from Classy Clutter.
3. Apple Slab Pie. I found this one via Pinterest and it looked so dang good I had to try it. I’ve always been a fan of apple pies, but I loved the idea of making a pie in ‘slabs’ instead. The crust was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Seriously, it was so good and flaky. I followed the recipe exactly (I usually do when I try something the first time), and made a caramel glaze to drizzle on top to cut the tartness of the apples. It was a hit with my family and if you are looking for a dessert with a pretty presentation, I would highly recommend this recipe from Smells Like Home.
4. Apple Cake. Well, while we are on the subject of apples, let me tell you about my favorite Apple Cake. This recipe was a hand-me-down from my mama from her friend, Peggy. And it is SO good ya’ll! SO moist and flavorful. And while it’s not the healthiest cake you’ve ever eaten, its worth the splurge. I always make it in a bundt pan, but will occasionally make it for cupcakes too. I shared the recipe many moons ago on my blog. It’s still a family fave.
5. Amish Friendship Bread. My brother married up in the world in a lot of ways and I love my sis-in-law dearly for lots of reasons. One of those reasons was because she introduced me to her Amish Friendship Bread recipe. It is SO good and can be tweaked in SO many ways. We love to get together and experiment with different bread recipes – hey Britt (that’s her name too), speaking of – let’s do this soon, k? I’ll share the process when we do, but in the mean time, I found a similar recipe to hers here.
So there ya have it – some delicious fall treats to add to your baking list. We love to do fun little Halloween snacks around here too. Do you have any ‘go-to’ recipes for fall? I’d love to hear about them!
